The United Arab Emirates University hosted a wide program of events in the euphoric celebration of the UAE’s 50th National Day.
His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh, Cultural Adviser to His Highness the UAE President and Chancellor of the UAEU addressed an evening assembly in the presence of H.E. Dr Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State and Sheikh Salem bin Rakkad Al-Amiri, of honourable dignitaries from Al Ain city, the university leadership, faculty members, staff, and students. The program of events at the UAEU Campus expressed UAE customs and traditions and included an interactive mural, performances of Emirati musical compositions, a heritage corner, and a performance of folklore, Al Ayala.
The Chancellor said, “With the Grace of God, the foundations of the Union are ever stronger thanks to the wisdom of our leadership, and the determined efforts of the loyal people. In the document, ‘Principles of the Fifty’ our leadership has set out a future vision for the nation and its people. It contains strategic directions for all fields of economic, political, and social development”.
The Chancellor set the celebration in the context of the future by saying, “Our Golden Jubilee marks an important threshold and point of transition. Our recent successes advance our global reputation, as measured by indicators of global competitiveness, particularly through our space mission and our clean energy developments. We have an effective political, cultural, and humanitarian presence which we draw on in our approach to addressing the challenges of a new stage in our developmental journey”.
Drawing attention to the role of education in the development of the nation, the Chancellor said, “The seeds of education planted by Sheikh Zayed have now blossomed and bear fruit. We are an educated generation equipped with the latest in scientific knowledge and modern technologies. Our leadership nurtures this harvest through their interest in cultural and scientific development and their promotion of research and innovation. They believe in the next generation and the capability of young people to lead the future march of the Union and achieve the aspirations of the people”. Speaking on behalf of the UAEU community, he said, “We offer our gratitude and congratulations to each other for our nation and our exceptional leaders”.
