The “Convenient Escape” Beyond the Colourful World of Kusama

The “Convenient Escape” is my dedication to Yayoi Kusama, most importantly it celebrates her wonderful mind and her willpower that beautifully converted her struggles with hallucination into wonderful pieces of art. Kusama never had it easy, but she held on to her passion even throughout the most difficult times in her life.

Early Life of Kusama
Born in 1929 in Matsumoto, Japan, Kusama began creating art at a young age. She experienced vivid hallucinations, seeing patterns and dots that seemed to engulf her surroundings, which deeply influenced her artistic style. Her early life was marked by a strict, often oppressive upbringing, and her parents disapproved of her artistic ambitions. Despite these challenges, Kusama persisted, using art as an outlet for her mental struggles and a means of escape from her restrictive environment.

As the name suggests, artists and creative minds escape to an alternate universe that fuels their passion. It is a dynamic world of ultimate potential, where one can design it as they like and find comfort whenever they go through the most difficult times of their life.

The sketch is color-graded prominently with shades of muted colors and is planted against a greyish-dull background. The colours symbolize the passion that Kusama holds on to, while the challenges and melancholy moments of her life are represented by the shades of grey in the background. It inspires all creative minds to stand out and shine inside formidable, intimidating surroundings. All you have to do is dedicate yourself to your passion.

As a creative, one should flow free with their imagination; your art is your ultimate escape.
