An Existential Crisis; You don’t attract what you want, You Attract Who You Are.
There’s nothing like pondering an existential crisis as we wind down into the end of the year. But if you think about it, what better time to reflect than the festive season before you start writing your New Year’s resolutions.
So percolate on this statement; you don’t attract what you want, you attract who you are. That is a bit of a tongue twister and has got my mind a bit boggled.
Let me tell you why. When I first read the statement, the spiritual, holistic, peace love and mumbeans side of me, screams out “Here! Here!” But then I read it again, and start feeling a little bit perplexed cause something is niggling at me saying, “Hmm, do we?”
Breaking the statement down the existential crisis kicks in. Do you not attract what you want? Not so sure? There have been many times that I have attracted exactly what I want – but only if it was truly what I wanted. Pretty sure we covered that in one of my previous articles. And then we have the second half of the statement confidently saying you attract who you are? Do I? Do we? There have been many times where I haven’t attracted who I am, I’ve actually attracted quite the opposite. Which is curious, seeing I’ve always been true to who I am, what I stand for and what my values are. Yet another topic I’m sure I’ve written about in the past.
So, what are we really trying to say here? What is at the heart of this existential crisis? Or is there actually even a crisis?
The times where we don’t attract what we want is usually when our focus isn’t clear. We tend to say what we want in the negative, in that although we know what we want, we lead with our fear of why we want that and what would happen if we don’t get that; ergo your focus is actually on what you don’t want and that is exactly what you end up attracting. Remember, your focus is your reality.
Now as for you attracting who you are, I don’t know about you, but I struggle to digest this. Because I don’t feel that this is 100 percent true. Granted you do tend to attract into your life or your circle like-minded spirits but not all the time. To me this statement is fallible because we have all had our fair share of downs in life that have left us pondering why?
What I do know for certain however, is that regardless of the hurdles and the knock downs, you need to hold your course. Stay true to who you are and don’t let anyone or anything knock you off your course; and in doing that you will become a stronger beacon for attracting who you are.
As the year comes to a close, I really want you all to think about who you want to be and what you want to be remembered for and commit to holding that course.
The universe will test you – no doubt – but don’t let that throw you off from being who you want to be.
That is ultimately all you need to define your existence – and that’s you.
Wishing you all the best over the festive season and making sure you surround yourself with the people you love!
