Everyone is talking about veneers, so what exactly are dental veneers ?

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are attached to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. They are made of strong porcelain material to resemble the natural tooth and are long lasting. We use dental veneers often for many of our patients at Al Alem dental center and we’ve been quite known for making them look and act like natural teeth.

How do veneers improve a smile and what kind of patients do you recommend veneers for ?

Veneers can be used to correct or treat a wide range of dental issues, such as:
Stained yellow teeth that cannot be improved by teeth whitening.
Chipped or worn teeth.
Gaps or uneven spaces between the teeth.
Short teeth can also be elongated using veneers.

How do you select the perfect veneers for each patient ?

Every patient is unique in their own way so are dental veneers, that is why every patient gets their own custom natural looking design. We select our veneers according to the patient’s face shape, skin tone, and gender. For example, for female patients we usually go for a smoother oval and less sharp line angles to achieve a beautiful feminine smile. Whereas for male patients, we go for sharp line angles and more tough looking veneers.

We’ve seen veneers in different shades. How do you select the shade for each patient ?

Our first priority is to consider the patient’s needs, some patients are looking for a white bright smile and some want a more smooth natural looking veneer. Then we analyze the patient’s skin tone, whether it is light, fair, medium or dark. For example, a light skin tone tone would have a warm, slightly yellowish colored veneer ; a dark skin tone would have a brighter slightly whiter looking veneer.

Do patients need to change their dental veneers or are they lifetime ?

There are many factors to be considered for dental veneers to last for a lifetime, for example:
Teeth and gums must be healthy before getting veneers. Carious and decayed teeth should be treated first to remove any bacteria before attaching a veneer. The teeth should go through a very minimal preparation or shaving to properly attach and bond the dental veneers. Failing to shave the teeth properly before applying the veneer means failure of the case.Veneers are not always a good choice for patients who clench or grind their teeth, because the thin veneers may chip or break. If you clench or grind your teeth, we may suggest wearing a plastic dental night guard while sleeping.
